Set of four Polished stone Table Mats

The stone that shapes the contours of the Isle of Purbeck and is today quarried for its properties as a building material has deep rooted origins. Apart from the fact that it is part of the geology of the Purbeck hills and was therefore formed in a distant and evolutionary era, the stone has been a part of peoples lives, or should we say livelihoods, for many years. These Table mats are 29½ cm x 21cm and add quality to any setting.

Today the presence of Purbeck Stone in the walls of Dorset homes is welcome, maintaining the character and tradition of the area. Yet it's roots go further than this, not only the beginnings of the Purbeck stone trade and uses of the fruit of its extraction, but also for those who are interested in the heritage of their country and the fact that men quarry today on the Isle of Purbeck what they quarried in ancient times.  See our pages devoted to the history of the Stone here>>>

Jurassic Coasters (tm)

Please note that Polished Purbeck Stone is a hard and durable natural limestone. Because of the shelly nature of the stone, minor imperfections can occur in the polished surface of the stone. This should be considered a feature of this natural product. You can protect your Jurassic Coaster by using a wax polish and wiping clean after use. This product should not be submersed in water and some substances such as alcohol may effect the polished surface if left to dry.

Not suitable for dishwasher.

Jurassic Coasters™ and indeed all Jurassic Coaster products are hand made from Purbeck Stone. Purbeck is a hard sedimentary Limestone from the cretaceous and upper jurassic series. We quarry the blocks as has been done for centuries from the thin seams of Purbeck stone and our skilled stone masons then cut and polish the stone individually in our own workshops at the Quarry.
